The article is based entirely on the author's correspondence with N.P. Ragozin (19.12.1953 – 24.10.2020), a talented philosopher. It was conducted for five years, from 2016 to 2020, and has been preserved in his personal archive. This publication is the implementation of the methodological position that "the history of philosophy" is not something that happened "a long time ago and not to us". It rather means that what happened yesterday is today and will pass into our memory tomorrow. The author proceeds from such an understanding of philosophy, which presupposes an active intellectual position in relation to public and everyday modernity. This is especially true for Russian, Soviet, and post-Soviet philosophy, the history of which is presented in the author's archival correspondence with his colleague and friend, representatives of the Rostov philosophical and cultural school. Such understanding of philosophy presupposes that apart from the historical-biographical method, we should apply specific historical and critical analysis of the history and modernity of our country and individual people, a thoughtful interpretation and a holistic understanding of the existential situations of our time
