The article examines the objective and subjective assumptions, as well as the likely constraints of the process of social consolidation of urban communities. Thus, among the prerequisites for consolidation, the authors attributed: the need for an institution that regulates the reproduction of urban communities; the demand for socio-cultural regulation; the need to "complete" integrative processes in an urban environment by self-organization of the urban community; the need to improve the quality of human relations. Three groups of constraints of the consolidation process are defined: those caused by the peculiarities of the external environment of the life of urban communities; those related to the specifics of the self-organization of urban communities; those caused by the peculiarities of the concept of consolidation and the process of its practical implementation.
