The article is devoted to the consideration of the phenomenon of biopolitics in the historical
aspect. A brief analysis of the works of ancient philosophers and the results of studying the views of
modern scientists are presented. The conclusions that the scientific-rational and philosophicaltheoretical comprehension of the problem need for a new conceptual representation and classification
are drawn. The author reveals the point of view that the problems of violence and non-violence, control
of all spheres of the individual life, the subjective specificity of protest movements of recent times confirm that the phenomenon of biopolitics is still far from due philosophical understanding and
represents the basis for further research.
