Abstract

One of the key vectors implemented in existing government programs is to increase the competitiveness of the Russian Federation in the field of educational exports. Russian scientists need to pay special attention to some ways to increase the attractiveness of domestic universities for students from China, the country that shares Russia's positions on numerous global and regional agenda items. The difficulties that arise in the process of adapting Chinese students to Russia are due to a number of factors, including the influence of the cultural and educational specificity of their native country. Given a lack of knowledge of this problem, the purpose of the study is to identify and describe the specific features of Chinese culture and the model of Chinese education that should be taken into consideration to increase the effectiveness of students’ adaptation. We have analyzed the dynamics of international students' number at Soviet/Russian universities to find out that this figure has grown significantly since Soviet times, despite temporary declines, and China has been increasingly active in the Russian educational services market since the 1990s.  The research describes the main educational and behavioral strategies of Chinese students, knowledge and understanding of which are necessary for the staff of international departments and teachers at Russian universities for more successful adaptation and integration of Chinese students.
