Revisiting the Concept of Legal Translation in Legal Contemplation

Abstract

In this article, the author considers the concept of legal translation, highlighting it as one of types of translation based on the feature that is the application field of translation. In the case of legal translation, the scope of application is legal field. The concept of legal translation is mainly based on understanding the phenomenon of translation as a whole. The place of legal translation is considered as an object of the research in the field of humanities. The author emphasizes the importance of interdisciplinarity in understanding the essence of legal translation. The main characteristics are explained and the definition of legal translation is provided. The author’s concept of the definition and explanation of the nature and specifics of legal translation is offered. There is special emphasis on the need for advanced language competence, legal competence, in general and in a specific field, and modality of the translator’s training in legal translation.
