In Daniel Straussberg's book, the object of scientific research is the affect as a result of a person's reaction to technical inventions, particularly machines and mechanisms, as well as the historical and psychological perspective on the causes of techno-optimism and techno-pessimism. Over time, the relationship between humans and machines becomes rhizomatic, expanding and spreading, forming complex interweavings of technical and metaphysical knowledge, consciousness, the unconscious, the real, the fantastic, and the mythological. The article emphasizes the ambivalent nature of the affects caused by the role of a person as both a creator and an outside observer. The culture of perception and attitude towards machines in the modern world, even taking into account the dynamics of its development and historical transformation, remains contradictory and structurally heterogeneous, which has made this research relevant.
