Abstract

The phenomenon of artificial intelligence is multidimensional: it includes a concept that has been formed for more than half a century, a term for designation in everyday speech, and the phenomenon itself. The collective idea of artificial intelligence in the public consciousness has developed as a simplified, non-reflexive result of mixing different semantic layers. As a result of this confusion, it is possible to fix a number of hoaxes that create a mythical halo around artificial intelligence. The theoretical confusion of meanings is also complicated by the practical simulation underlying the functioning of artificial intelligence, primarily represented by neural networks as its most popular tool. The purpose of the study is to demythologize the image of artificial intelligence in the public consciousness. The author identifies three dimensions of artificial intelligence in which its mystification is carried out: terminological, conceptual and functional. Terminological mystification in the Russian tradition is largely generated by the nuances of translation, conceptual mystification is associated with the struggle of approaches to the development of artificial intelligence and the substitution of concepts in the process of this struggle. The role of psychometrics in the mystification of the phenomenon of artificial intelligence is emphasized. It is concluded that the functional dimension of artificial intelligence is a zone of transition of the phenomenon into a simulacrum in its Baudrillard interpretation.
