Abstract

The monograph by Japanese programmer and computer science researcher Masayuki Ida's “A Narrative History of Artificial Intelligence: The Perpetual Frontier of Information Technology” converges technical and philosophical discourses in considering the history of artificial intelligence. The review articulates the main aim of the book – a narrative explication of the technological history of AI, accompanied by the actualization of various philosophical topics and problems. The main subject-thematic orientation of each chapter of the book is reconstructed, covering the main milestones of hardware and software history of artificial intelligence. Special attention is paid to M. Ida’s philosophical reflections and questions arising in relation to each stage of the genesis of AI technologies. The paper emphasizes the importance of the book for the philosophical discourse of comprehension of the theoretical concept and socio-cultural phenomenon of artificial intelligence.
