David Friedman's book "Legal Systems Very Different from Ours" reveals relevant aspects of comparative jurisprudence, using sources on the law of the Chinese Empire, Gypsy law, Amish law, Islamic, Jewish law, piracy and prison laws. According to the reviewers, it is productive to identify legal systems based on the source of the law itself, a right based on a divine source and an agreement.
