Abstract

Russia is one of the largest states in the world with a developed economy and a multinational population, which  puts its imprint on the essence, content, types of national interests, which, in turn, mediate tasks in the field of ensuring national security, protecting human, civil rights, freedoms, and sustainable development. In Russian jurisprudence, there is a shortage of research in the field of national interests legal support which creates significant difficulties in their legal understanding and formalization in the current legislation. The main purpose of the study is to construct a definition of national interest on the basis of establishing the legal nature of interest. In this regard, the paper presents an analysis of sources, including those in historical retrospect, containing concepts of the nature of interests in general. Along with this, approaches to the definition of interests in legal and other sciences have been studied. The scientific significance of the work is expressed in the author's definition of national interests as historically established, recognized, respected and protected at the state level objectively significant personal, public and state needs for security and sustainable development.
