Urban Settlements in the Social Space of Russian Society: Historical Memory in the Context of Social Consolidation

Abstract

The presented theses analyze the possibilities of historical memory as a socio-cultural phenomenon of the social space of urban settlements. It is emphasized that historical memory is a form of consolidation of cultural and historical traditions and social experience in the consciousness and perception of residents of urban settlements. That historical memory is associated not only with the past, but also with the present and future of urban settlements. The sociological dimension of historical memory is based on its significance for the social consolidation of residents of urban settlements, since in the conditions of the negative impact of social inequalities, facts and images of the past become the basis for achieving a plan of joint activities for the development of urban settlements, their social improvement and faith in the future of their native city.
