Plato on Art and Reason

Abstract

Ancient Greece gives birth to many cultural factors of Western civilization: democracy, philosophy and theater usually are regarded as "great Greek wonders". But can we really count on a cultural symphony between philosophy and theater in ancient Greece? The proposed article rises the next problem: what does the philosophical attitude to theater and art in General look like? Thus, the purpose of the article is to fix Plato's attitude to the phenomenon of theater. The main conclusion of the article is that for Plato, theater is an art form that should be controlled by the mind. A possible problem hidden in the article is: to what extent can this idea of Plato be considered relevant in General for the philosophical worldview?
